The brief for this project was clear and concise. The design was to take inspiration from 19th century Central Otago gold miner’s cottages that can be found in rugged rural areas such as this one. Rather than altering the natural environment to suit the building, the client wanted to integrate the building with the section and surrounding features that make this part of New Zealand so unique.
High standard fit and finish was paramount as well as the provision of particular building materials, namely native timbers and schist which allow the finished home to blend seamlessly with it’s environment.
To assist in the design phase of this building, we created detailed 3D renderings to allow the client to fully visualise each design feature and the property as a whole and how to best fit in with the site’s natural features. The site itself was somewhat challenging, but the rewards were so much greater given the stunning views surrounding this incredible home.
